We are now into the heart of the Season and the Giants are being tested
This post is coming to you from Oklahoma City where the Czar is finishing a meeting with the nation’s alcohol regulators and chomping at the bit to come home and see the G-Men. The conference organizers forced us all to go to an OKC Dodgers game (the AAA team for the dreaded team from LA). That was painful but I hope the pain will be alleviated by a successful sojourn later this week in LA before the Giants come home to face the Padres and the Snakes. There is nothing boring about the new look Giants kids.
The G-Men are 36 and 32 as of this morning after a successful road trip against the Rockies (a sweep) and the Cardinals (another sweep in extra innings). This team is exciting to watch. The youth movement is in full swing on the field and now on the mound. As the last few weeks have shown, the major need is starting pitching. You can only have so many bullpen games before you burn out the pen, and that will happen now unless either the starters get healthy, young arms up from Sacramento or the G-men pick up a quality starter at the trade deadline (Marcus Stroman, you like the bay area, maybe its time to relocate!).
To keep the overworked bullpen fresh Keaton Winn, a 21-year-old from the River Cats, came up and pitched a 4-inning save against the Cards on Monday. More Youth Movement!
On the offensive side, the Giant’s number-one player in the minors, Luis Matos (batting .398 in Sacramento) comes to the big leagues to replace Mitch Haniger, whose arm was broken in Monday’s Cardinals game when he was hit by a pitch. Matos is the latest youngster to make it to the bigs and joins Schmitt, Bailey, and Wisely behind a resurgent Joc Pederson and Michael Conforto (who is leading the G-men in dingers and RBI’s), Estrada (the most consistent hitter and best defender this side of Crawford on the team) and Late Night Lamont (who hit the 100th splash hit during the last home series).
Are we having fun yet?
The upcoming series against the Padres and the Snakes – Critical division games
The Padres are too good a team to be where they are but it may be the hubris of the media contract striking hard (will they trade away Machado – do we want him?). The Snakes though are for real. They lead the division and this series will be critical (almost as critical as the games in LA this weekend).
On the board and ready to be picked up are:
MON 6/19 -Padres [6:45] – 4
WED 6/21 – Padres [6:45] – 3 – I’m going
THUR 6/22 – Padres [12:45] – 4
FRI 6/23 – Snakes [7:15] – 4
SUN 6/25– Snakes [7:05] – 4 - Tiki Mugs
Let the torture continue!
Ciao, and GO GIANTS!

THE PROTOCOL: The firm has four seats in Section 118 (Premium Lower Boxes), Rows 25 and 26. These are awesome seats directly below the press box and 25 rows behind home plate on the left side behind the screen. It is foul ball territory for left-handed batters so bring your glove – I have collected 22 foul balls myself over 23 years and am looking for more. If we don’t use all the tickets ourselves (or clients and friends of the firm don't claim them by calling me and reserving a game), then my next step is to give the tickets TO THE FIRST PERSON WHO GETS BACK TO ME PROVIDED THAT THEY ARE SERIOUS. If you ask for the tickets and don't use them, you will be taken off the list unless there is a seriously good reason. There will be a wait list.
When there are four seats available (we split up a lot of games) we will allocate the tickets two and two if the first people back just want two tickets. You can also go for four and might get them. I'm the Czar, my call.
Oh, and BTW, The Czar found the original Hinman & Carmichael brick from 2000 (after looking for it every year since 2000) and found H&C’s Gotham Club Founders Bat! If you are on the patio, or in the Club, look for the symbols of baseball!
